HOW IT ALL STARTED
Owens’ first
taste of racing competition was on a
Huffy bike. She signed on as a
factory rider for Dan’s
Competition/Huffy Bikes, scoring
several wins and taking home the
prestigious President’s Cup national
championship award.
When Owens turned 12 years old, she
upgraded her bicycle for a Quarter
Midget and launched her career in
motorsports. The following year, she
continued building her racing resume
at the Volusia (Fla.) Speedway Park
half-mile clay oval, competing in
the Dirt Pure Stock Division. Owens
capped off her rookie year with an
impressive two wins, six top-fives
and eight top-10 finishes.
In 2004, Owens was selected to be
part of the prestigious Lyn St.
James Academy driver development
program. While in school, Owens fine
tuned her driving skills and
polished her media techniques. She
began competing in the Mini Stock
division at the half-mile oval at
New Smyrna Speedway. She completed
the season third in the championship
standings and took home
Rookie-of-the-Year honors as well.
Owens progressed to the Late Model
division at New Smyrna Speedway in
2005. In her first event, Owens
scored a second-place finish. She
finished third in the championship
standings in route to another
Rookie-of-the-Year crown.
2007 was a banner season for Owens.
She forged a relationship

CHANGING GEARS
2011 is where she
got her feet wet in the NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series.
Alli was in the process of putting
together a truck deal for 2011 when
she found out her primary sponsor
was not renewing her contract due to
the economy. Not deterred,
Alli made up her mind she was going
to at least race Daytona. With an
amazing amount of help from over
5000 fans and local businesses, she
got enough money to race at Daytona.
Alli formed a
team headed by her ARCA crew chief,
found a truck that needed a driver
and headed to Daytona. Before
realizing she was pregnant, Alli
managed to put her NASCAR truck on
the board, 9th fastest out of the 46
trucks that were there. On
qualifying day NASCAR issued new
restrictor plates due to the trucks
being too fast. This hurt Alli's
truck and the team just couldn't
compensate for the much lower
horsepower. Alli missed qualifying
by two positions.
Being pregnant
and not having a primary sponsor was
an opportunity for Alli to spend
time with her new husband Paul and
await the arrival of Baby Braelynn
in October. |
